CORY KNEDLER

Cory Knedler is an artist, educator, and a Chair of the Department of Art at the University of South Dakota.

 

He received his BFA from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas and his MFA from The University of South Dakota in Vermilion, SD. As a printmaker, his works have been exhibited in over 100 shows, including exhibits at the Mid-America Print Conference and the Brussels National Museum in Belgium.

  • Serve as academic administrator and community voice representing the Department of Art in fiscal, promotional and public relations.  Promote growth and opportunities for students and faculty in teaching, research and service in the visual arts.  Report to the College of Fine Arts Dean.

  • Curated The Main Gallery, Oscar Howe Art Gallery and Gallery 110.
  • Duties include directing graduate assistantship staff in installation, presentation, lighting, framing and storage of permanent collections and monthly exhibitions.  Permanent collection consists of Japanese prints and artifacts, Northern Plains tribal arts, African sculptures and masks, Oceanic masks and artifacts, WPA era prints, and Contemporary regional art.  Collection valued at $2.5 million.

  • Curated Levitt Gallery and Epply Galleries.
  • Responsible for accession and installation rotation of exhibitions of the 1998 acquired permanent collection donated by Helen Levitt.  Approximately 300 prints, paintings and sculptures focused on figurative Mexican Art and Pop Era Printmaking.  Collection valued at $2 million.

  • Oversee annual fundraising, staff and expenditures of the Art Institute for Native American high school students. Instruct participating Native American high school students in printmaking, drawing, painting and gallery presentation during a two-week institute in Native American art and culture.

  • Arrange all workshops for the two-week long camp for high school students.
